Well-written and informative!

I had this problem a few years ago. It was only when I changed my lifestyle, got started on yoga and an anti inflammatory diet I began to feel better.
This is exactly what this book preaches. Very well written and informative. I especially enjoyed the tips on nutrition and caffeine. Believe it or not- coffee only makes you feel more tired. I believe this book can be a great wake up call for many people.

About the Author
Michael Riscica is a licensed Architect, living in the beautiful city of Portland, Oregon, with his yellow Labrador Retriever. After graduating from architecture school in 2007, he began taking the AREs in 2009 while the exam was in the middle of transitioning from ARE 3.1 to ARE 4.0. He quickly completed it and actually enjoyed studying for the CDS, PPP, SPD, and SD exams—due to the fact that much of the information helped him with his day job at a firm. During the recession and in the middle of unemployment, Michael failed the structures exam. This all forced him to take a short break from the ARE for a little while… Which before he knew it, turned out to be 1.5 years! At the end of 2012, Michael became really frustrated with not being a licensed architect. At this point, not having a license to practice architecture was holding him back from advancing his career and building his own business. He was also starting to run out of time with the 5-year rolling clock and the old 6-month wait after failed exams. Michael spent the entire year of 2013 very aggressively studying, obsessing over, and taking 4 AREs. He passed his last exam in October 2013 and was licensed in December 2013. While studying, Michael would frequently say: “With all the time, money, and energy I have put into passing these exams, I could have built a very successful business.” Immediately after becoming licensed, he transitioned all of his momentum into using his license, taking on more projects, and starting to share his experiences on his blog YoungArchitect.com.

Great read for anyone considering becoming a licensed architect in the USA and Canada

I am an architect with foreign degree who met all the requirements and was cleared to take exams in 2008. I passed one, failed a second one, got laid off in August 2008 and haven't touched books since. One exam I passed expired last year and I will have to do it all over again, if I decided license is what I want to pursue.

I bought Michael's eBook and read it in one go. Great points and suggestions. Michael shares his experience and his opinion of the process of preparing for exams and gives some very useful directions. Most important one is - you HAVE to study and prepare yourself. Results come through serious preparation. Yes, you might get lucky with some tests but in the end it's all work, work, work.

Ultimately, it is a decision for each individual if they are going to pursue the ARE exams and how they will approach that process, but reading Michael's book will definitely help you see better what is ahead of you. I am strongly recommending this book to anyone who is either taking exams right now or are about to do so in the near future.

This book is the only reason I got motivated and started passing the exams. I tried to take one of the exams 10 years ago and failed and gave up. I thought I was just wasn't the type of person that could pass these exams. After reading this book I realized you don't have to be a genius to pass these exams, you just have to know how to study. This book will teach you how to study the right way and pass.

A Helping Hand

I have been following Mike blog for about a year now and found the information he shares to be very helpful. Shortly after he released the book, he started the ARE Boot Camp study group, which I signed up for immediately. Michael uses some of his blog posts as the main outline for the book, but expands in to more detail the process he went through to complete the exams. This book has been very helpful for me to prepare for the exams. It's the type of book you don't read just once. For me it is a resource for continuous support to complete the exams.

Greatest Biblical Resource ever printed

The Complete Biblical Library

Only the New Testament half is being sold here but this review is for both the Old and New Testament sets.

I bought this set soon after it was published (at a far less expensive price than what is offered for it these days) and have learned more about the Scriptures through using it than through any other reference work I have ever come across.

This reference works like this (using the New Testament half as an example): There are several volumes that have every New Testament book/epistle with every word of that epistle in Greek with a number associated with that Greek word, its usage in Greek grammar, and a direct English translation underneath. There are also some very short commentary remarks that follow the epistle. Those remarks are found on the opposite page of the Greek presentation. These volumes also give information about the history of the ancient Greek versions in existence (as they relate to that particular epistle). There are other volumes that make up their Greek-English Dictionary. These are best used when you have a question about a particular word found within one of the epistle volumes. Having the number of that word, you can easily look it up in the Dictionary. That Dictionary not only defines the word but also gives it various uses and will point to the precise use in the epistle you are studying.

Acts 6:4 (each Greek word of that sentence is given)

The short commentary for Acts 6:4 says, "Choosing the 7 would enable the 12 apostles to give themselves to prayer and the ministry [ministration; Greek diakonia, the same word used in verse 1 for the daily ministration to the widows] of the Word. The apostles would serve the Word, while the seven served tables."

One word in that sentence is "but":

As you can see, this set is absolutely invaluable for the Serious Bible student. Since this full set has been out of print for several years, they have become rather expensive. Nevertheless, if you are a Serious Bible student, and you can scrape together the money, it will be well worth it. However, if you are not delving into The Scriptures on a daily or weekly basis, this is probably too intricate (and too expensive) for your use.

This set stopped being printed several years ago, not because of any problem with the information but rather because of a lack of sales. There, apparently, simply were not enough people interested in actually studying the Bible for this work to stay in print.

I give these sets (Old and New Testament volumes) the highest praise I can give a Biblical reference work. This deserves far more than 5 Stars.

Excellent self contained set

I bought this two years ago. It is a great set for introduction to study the Bible scholarly. The editors' philosophy was to provide a self contained set for a layman to study the Bible seriously. It includes Greek-English interlinear, commentary, textual criticism, dictionaries with a unique numbering system, grammar book for Greek.

Great read. I enjoyed The Trap even more than ...

Great read. I enjoyed The Trap even more than I enjoyed Robin's last book The Chain. The novel is a murder mystery involving characters from an animal protection organization, a few members of the Animal Liberation Front and agents of the Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services division. The captivating story is based on facts and it's obvious that Robin thoroughly researched the subject matter. Wildlife Services kills millions of wild animals every year to protect the profits of ranchers. As a work of fiction, it is hopeful that The Trap will make a new audience aware of how our tax dollars are used in a war against wildlife. I look forward to the next book in The Kinship Series.

Suspenseful and potent

Robin Lamont is a master of suspense, and I've enjoyed each of her novels, including this one. The story offers both a heart-breaking account of Wildlife Services' cruelty toward animals while at the same time providing a powerful message that our species can indeed be compassionate. The twists in the plot will leave you both shocked and hopeful.

This book is a brave and important piece of work. Like her heroine, Robin Lamont has waded into the deep waters of public land and wildlife mismanagement and uncovers a host of ugly truths. In the West the government agencies that are charged with protecting the land and wildlife have been largely captured by the folks the land and wildlife needs protection from. The secretive US Government Wildlife Services is run by the USDA for ranchers in a way the public would never tolerate if they knew about it. "Shoot, Shovel and Shut-up" is their slogan regarding wolves. Like all Western states, the Idaho Fish and Wildlife Agency is paid for by hunting licenses and run not to protect wildlife but for hunters. In the Western conservative red states much of state legislative agendas are set by the Tea Party's private American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Many rural folks who live near our public lands don't seem to realize that Little Red Riding Hood is not a true story. Hunting psychology is about dominion and is justified in much the same way of that of a rapist. With the lifting of Federal protection for wolves that states have taken over and now hold killing derbies to see who can kill the most wolves and coyotes. Recreational hunters routinely claim without irony that wolves are the only animal that hunts for fun.

The issues are all there and nicely wrapped up in a page turning tale. I read my copy all in one sitting. The protagonist works for a small animal protection group and the books opens with her visiting the gorgeous Lamar Valley in Yellowstone and having the life changing experience of observing wolves in the wild. It is here that she first learns of ranchers and hunters laying in wait at the Park's borders to shoot any wolf that crosses over. A murder is discovered in nearby Idaho of a Wildlife Services agent who appears to have been shot and trapped in his own animal trap. The heroine is sent to investigate and her love for animals and her dismay and disgust at what she learns as she does so keep compelling her to dig in deeper into ever more personal danger. The reader won't know they are being taught an important wildlife management lesson, they will just keep turning the pages to find out what happens.

We need more of such work. Kudos to Lamont for her talent in getting her own work out there. Do the planet a favor, buy this book, read it, then tell two friends to do the same. You will make the world a better place.

About the Author
Anna Kudyma holds a Ph.D. in Russian language pedagogy and is TA Supervisor in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, University of California, Los Angeles.

Frank Miller was Professor of Slavic Languages and has been the Director of the Russian Language Program at Columbia University and Barnard College since 1985. He served as president of AATSEEL in 1999-2000, and was the recipient of the Hettleman Award for Distinguished Teaching and Service at Columbia University in 1988 and the AATSEEL Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1996. He passed away in January 2016 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

Olga Kagan is Professor of Russian and Director of the National Heritage Language Resource Center, University of California, Los Angeles. The authors have also published other widely used Russian language textbooks.

One of the best (if not the best) Russian language book out there

What can I say!! this is one of the best books about learning the Russian language. It scores maximum points on many things including the following:

1- It is as complete as any academic textbook.
2- It is a 2 in 1 book. Textbook and workbook.
3- The books website has all the audio/video and answers which makes it ideal for self learners who don't have to rely on an instructor to correct them. Also the audio and video files can be downloaded to be played on a computer or mp3 player and the answers are in PDF which can be printed or downloaded.
4- The price of the book is under $30 which makes it affordable to everyone (note: Golosa, the only book that comes close to this one costs more than $70 with no answers to exercises and the workbook is sold separately).
5- I like the pace at which the book moves forward. The chapters are bite size and the vocabulary and grammar can be absorbed and understood by everyone including absolute beginners.

Bottom line, I've purchased many Russian language books, dictionaries, and software including Rosetta Stone; This is the first book that I will be recommending from now on to anyone interested in learning Russian. So buy it with confidence because it is worth 10 times it's value.

Don't listen to the negative reviews about this book! I almost did and am so glad I didn't. The book is fantastic! For those who want the answers to the exercises...they're on the website under "Key to Textbook Exercises"...not that hard to figure out. Click on the chapter you want and bam. And if you prefer it in a paper copy, then print it off and shove it in the back of your book. Even if you've never spoken a word of Russian, you can use this book. The commentary on the sides plus the thorough website and exercises make it easy enough. And I enjoy textbooks like this that have many different exercises and pictures to look at. I'm a visual learner so it helps me...maybe others not so much. But for the price, you can't do any better than this book with all it offers.

A good beginning

This book is a good starting point for someone with more than phrase book Russian in mind. It is geared towards university study rather than tourism. The interactive online workbook is not optional, it is necessary. If you don't have easy access to the internet don't buy this book. If you do, this book is a good value for the price. The online portion includes listening practice and several activities to help you learn vocabulary, including spelling. If you are ambitious, install a Cyrillic keyboard and learn to type Russian too. I purchased this book for self-study so I am unable to practice the many conversation portions for lack of anyone to converse with. But if you do have someone to practice with then this is a very well rounded curriculum.

Great Book on Distributed Systems

This book is a little more expensive than most of the flashy Web Services books these days but it is well worth the money. Set in small font and not wasting pages on chapters like "History of XML and SOAP" this book is dense in content on the architecture of distributed systems, including Web Services. We get to learn about the issues of distributed transactions and the differences between conversations, coordination and orchestration. The text is precise but nevertheless easy to follow. One of the best books I have seen on Web Services architecture.

Clear explanations, good fundamentals

I am using this book for a graduate level class about Web Services. I like the books approach on giving you enough background about middle-ware evolution that makes it easier to understand what Web Services are trying to accomplish. Given that the actual technology (implementation details) change so much in this area the books approach makes a lot of sense. I also found explanations to be concise and clear.

Advice: if you are looking for a hands-on how-to book about XML this is not the book to pick up. Otherwise, if you are looking for a good fundamentals book that will help you paint a big picture of Web Services this book is great!

Poor Quality Kindle Edition

The quality of the Kindle version of this book is very poor. It looks as if one is reading a poor quality scan rather than rendered text. The type face is very light and jagged. Worse still, are the whitespace breaks between letters within words. It's like reading code rather than prose. Unfortunately, I didn't start reading the book until well after the seven day return policy and now I'm stuck with it but, don't you get stuck with it. If you want this book, get the hard copy and avoid the Kindle version at all cost.

Some errors and other problems

For example, on p. 231 the author notes that after the failure of the Paris Agreement negotiations, Sec of State Rice offered to talk to Iran but encountered Iran's "refusal to negotiate" and a rebuff of the "USA's historic offer to sit down and talk". However, he himself also notes that this offer of talks was saddled with a precondition that Iran first abandon enrichment, though he draws no conclusions from the imposition of that precondition and makes no other effort to judge the sincerity of the offer of talks under terms which basically required the Iranian side to capitulate first. We are simply expected to accept this precondition as divinely ordained and something that Iran was somehow obligated to recognize.

In short, according to the author, Iranian motivations are legitimate area of speculation, but everything the EU-3 or the US does is to be taken at face value as merely legitimately intended to limit weapons proliferation by Iran rather than anything else -- such as using the nuclear issue as a pretext to pursue a policy of imposed regime change in Iran, just as WMDs in Iraq was just a pretext. Even former IAEA head Elbaradei concluded that the West was simply using the nuclear issue as a pretext for an entirely different policy of imposing regime change on Iran, which is why the US ignored or actively undermined Iranian and international (Brazil/Turkey) negotiations, yet this goes unmentioned.

In treatment of the entire Paris Agreement affair, the author fails to make a crucial point clear: the Iranians were assured that permanently giving up enrichment would not be demanded. It was "off the table." And yet that's precisely what the EU-3 ended up demanding of Iran, regardless of the assurances they had been giving Iran that they did NOT seek an end to enrichment. This is a strange point to miss, since Mousavian has written that he specifically requested and obtained assurances from the representatives of the Eu3 that no such demand would be made, and furthermore the EU-3 offer was specifically rejected because it did contain such a demand afterall. Ingoring that yet again, naturally the author lays the blame for the failure of the Paris Agreement on "Iran's abrogation" (p. 219) of the deal, with no mention that the EU offer was simply an "empty box in pretty wrapping" (to quote one analyst at BASIC) -- and yet the author still seems to imply that Iran's view of the West as perfidious is somehow invalid. For more info on this debacle, I suggest reading Peter Osborns's book "A Dangerous Delusion: Why the West is Wrong About Nuclear Iran" as well as Gareth Porter's book, "The Untold Story of the Iran Nuclear Scare"

Much of the most relevant and more detailed material is hidden away in paragraph-long footnotes which probably should have been included in the main text. For example, you'd have to read footnote 7 of Chapter 13 to discover that the traces of highly-enriched uranium found in Iran were confirmed to be due to contamination rather than secret Iranian nuclear experiments, and then you'd have to read footnote 18 of the same chapter to realize that Iran took corrective measures with respect to past "failures to report" nuclear activities to the IAEA's satisfaction pursuant to the Iran-IAEA Modalities Agreement, and that the IAEA had declared all nuclear material in Iran to be accounted for with no evidence of diversion for non-peaceful purposes. Yet despite this, the author asserts that Iran's past breaches "clearly" required Iran to be reported to the UNSC -- a legal conclusion which is not so clear at all and is in fact contradicted by legal experts. Note that S Korea, Egypt and other nations which breached their safeguards agreement much more egregiously were not similarly hauled before the UNSC.

To his credit, the author points out that the veracity of the "alleged studies" claims are in doubt, but instead claims that Iran's possession of the "Uranium sphere" documents indicates "an interest in nuclear weapons" -- nevermind that far more detailed information about making nuclear weapons are a matter of public record and can be found in a local library or government reading room of declassified documents. While the author does point out that Iran's plans for enrichment predated the "discovery" of Natanz in 2002/2003, he fails to connect the dots that run counter to the popular thesis of a "hidden enrichment program" in Iran which was dramatically exposed by a dissident organization -- namely crucial facts like the fact that Iran had by then already formally declared the Uranium Conversion Facility to the IAEA in 2000 (completed by Iran, after the Chinese pulled out under US pressure) or that in 1984 the US ended a planned IAEA-Iran joint project to set up the enrichment program there (whcih caused Iran to resort to secrecy to avoid US interference with its nuclear contracts) or that in 1994 the Iranians had opened Iran's uranium mines to visits by IAEA officials -- so the "discovery" in 2002/2003 that Iran was interested in enrichment should not have come as nearly the surprise it was portrayed in the media. Iran's enrichment program was in fact never a secret.

In the end, the author concludes that Iran seeks nuclear weapons "capability" and that this is driven in part by a desire to appear modern and independent as well. This is mere conventional wisdom being repeated without justification, and overlooks the fact that 40 nations already have a nuclear "capability", and it furthermore overlooks Iran's repeated offers to impose additional restrictions on its nuclear program well beyond anything other nations have agreed to, intended to ensure that the program can't even theoretically be used to secretly make nukes.

The Best So Far

This is the best history of the Iranian nuclear program from the time of the Shah to modern times. For all the attention that has been given to Iran and its nuclear program, the last real book to look focus on the history of the nuclear program instead of analyzing the nuclear program as part of a larger analysis on Iran and its relationship with the U.S was Chubin's Iran's nuclear ambitions in 2006. This book I found was a lot more thorough than Chubin's work and especially detailed on the years before the full extent of Iran's nuclear program were revealed in 2002. After 20002 the author seems to switch focus to the diplomacy surrounding Iran's nuclear program rather and gives less attention to the progress of the actual nuclear program. This "diplomatic history" is fairly well done but nothing riveting for anyone who's been following this diplomacy attentively. It finally should be noted that Patrikarakos strongly emphasizes the ideational factors and symbolism of the nuclear program for Iran and its leaders. Some attention is certainly given to the security factors driving it but far less of its focus is on the domestic political factors.

Great Historical Context

Covering the full history of Iran's nuclear program(s), it provides contextual understanding for the motivations underlying the effort.

I was surprised at how much continuity existed over the years: many motivations changed, but more (or at least many) remained the same.

As a bonus, it is extremely well written -- a great read.
