She felt something move above her. A half-helmet slid down over her head, holding it firmly in place. It was open at the front so she had a clear view of the screen. She felt soft padding around her ears and heard a sound begin to play, but so low she could barely hear it.

As she strained to listen, she was barely aware of her arms and legs being strapped to the chair. The white light danced in front of her eyes, relaxing her mind and body, and the low, elusive sound played softly in her ears.

Slowly, the sound began to change, and she realised it was a voice. Not just any voice, but her own voice. "Can you hear me now, Jessica?" she said, and Jessica felt a thrill of pleasure ripple through her. Just below the voice, she thought she could hear another sound, low and regular, like a heartbeat.

"Yes," she said, not thinking it at all odd that her own voice was speaking to her or that she was replying.

"That's great! Everything's going to be so good from now on, if you just listen to me."

Jessica nodded. She wanted to listen to her voice, wanted to believe her. Though there was something about it...she sounded just a little too cheerful, a little ditzy even. That wasn't her...was it?

Jessica and Christian look for companies to invest in.
Cutting edge X-TECK was a firm looking into.
Although somewhat questionable, they specialize in
working on the human brain. They focus on implanted
knowledge, personalities, and memory shifting.
Unknown to Jessica, Christian has set her up to
test their latest program.
As she eases into the comfy test chair, she is
surprised to hear her own voice speaking to her.
As her voice slowly relaxes her, Jessica is
slowly brainwashed into company compliance.
Her new future unfolds before her, one in
which she will become a bimbo submissive slave.
Although the ending is somewhat predictable,
I wish it had a little more gusto in the end.
Still a pretty good read.

A stupid stupid stupid woman because a bimbo... surprise.

I didn't particularly like this story because the male partner is so obviously plotting, and the female partner is unbelievably stupid throughout the whole story. She might have been given the persona of a bimbo by the end, but her mental state was there from the beginning.

Her female character is such a mess. Continuously she does the opposite of what a (supposingly) successful business woman would. The test she agrees to take has only two logical results: It works, putting her whole being at the mercy of an untrustworthy business partner with everything to gain from it, or it's a fraud... Come on! Best case scenario she gains nothing!

Updating a midstream review, still so good at 100%!

Initially I wrote: ...truth be told I'm at 34% according to my kindle and I'm in for a long, very long, night. I knew there was a good reason I waited till this was published. No way I'd have the patience to read this serialized. And though the styles do vary ever so slightly between sections, only because I'm looking for it, the story flows, making the differentiation a bit of a game. So good that I chose to stop here and write a midstream review. I'll be back...

Update: I adore full length novels. Original characters populate this collaborative story along with all the usual players but the story gives us a wonderful "insider" perspective on our favorite reticent, romantic hero. Though ultimately, this is a story about brothers, the romance and adventure is ever present, elaborated, and explored. The plot follows canon to a point but with several creative twists. And (vague spoiler) if you believe Wickham got off easy in the original, you will be satisfied here.

There are a few sections that could have benefited from a group conference, but understanding the nature of this project, that's to be expected. And there are plotlines that could be continued, so if any of the five authors feel the inclination, please write on!

All in all, even ignoring the current flood of abbreviated JAFF offerings, this book will stand, in style and substance, above most the rest. I thank these talented authors for this worthy entertainment.

Another excellent twist to Jane Austen's classic!

Theophilus?? Fitzwilliam Darcy's brother is named Theophilus?? That is just the first of many surprises in this great version of Jane Austen's classic. With a cadre of superior writers working in tandem, the tone and pace of this story is masterful. I doubt any Janeite could set this novel aside after reading just a couple chapters - it calls to you!

Without my giving away any of the story, you can count on these writers to wend their way along a story path following numerous twists and turns that twist and turn your emotions at the same time! There is angst - every story requires its share of emotion rending situations. But, do not be heavily concerned, all will be well - eventually!

My kindle says this story takes over seven hours to read. For me that has been seven plus hours of pure enjoyment! I would suggest you block out time in your schedule and with your favorite beverage and snack simply relax and enjoy reading how Theo manages to..... Ahh, but that would be telling! Enjoy reading this story for yourself!

I loved this incredibly well written book, the characters and the storyline were perfect. I agree with the other reviewers, block out your time, put your head down and immerse yourself in this fabulous story. I have to say I fell over this book in the Amazon recommendations which surprised me as I throughly search "daily" for any pride and prejudice variations buying both the great and the awful. This book did not at any time show up on my searches, so if I found this hard to locate maybe others are having the same trouble. In saying that, "Thank God" I eventually did, and can only add that old saying, do yourself a favor. Please I beg you, a story on Theo would be appreciated.

We are all complete pratts

David Nobbs is a British writer, most famous for his television work (e.g. The Rise And Fall of Reginald Perrin, with Leonard Rossiter in the title role) which just reminds me how much better British TV has been on the average over the USA product. The Complete Pratt is a set of three novels about an ordinary man, Henry Ezra Pratt, born in poverty on the eve of WWII, growing up and surviving in postwar Britain, his adventures proof that life is what happens to you while you're making plans. There are laughs on every page, and Nobbs has great affection for his characters.

Worthy Content in Search of an Editor

The author's experiences are not only valuable (and valid) reflections on the current landscape of life in Indonesia, they are also interesting, even gripping. And his powers of observation and expression are more than adequate. The book, however, doesn't work as well as it should have, for lack of a competent and active editor. What we have here is raw material, well structured, but desperately seeking an editor. Let's hope for a second edition, with additional material, after the project has been embraced by a serious publisher that will give this raw manuscript the attention it needs and deserves. I'm surprised this hasn't happened yet, given the potential (market potential, film potential) of the raw material. Get this man an agent! And a drink. Immediately.

Bali High, Bali Low

This book is a great reader, taking no time to turn page after page of a well written account of one man's descent into a cultural web of deceit and disillusionment. A more than competent writer, Michael Donnelly guides us,not only from personal experience, but with the flair of a master raconteur, as he chronicles in great depth the story of his failed marriage to a Bali beauty, and the turbid nature inherent in dealing with foreign cultures, long removed from the legal protections of first world societies. He openly shares his devil's trade of beauty for years of anguish and pain, risking his own financial well being, and his children, for a siren's song that plays out badly indeed. And like any ancient Greek, we are hereby forewarned of the tremendous challenges and disasters that await anyone who fails to heed warnings against sirens when dealing with the darker side of humanity, especially while blinded by the light of love and desire. A stern admonition for not only potential Bali visitors, but for young lovers who fail to protect their own interests at the expense of a starry-eyed idealism that never has, nor ever will, exist.

A personal reflection on Eleven Demons

I can think of two very good reasons for reading Eleven Demons. First, it is a great read, a genuine page-turner. Mr Donnelly is an excellent storyteller by any standard. He weaves the many threads of this complex account with care, always maintaining the flow of the "plot" as well as a strong sense of suspense - an unusual feature in a personal memoir. He introduces new characters with economy of description, but finds ways to bring them to life as he moves the story on. He tells this deeply personal and at times distressing account without any hint of special pleading or sympathy-seeking. Mr Donnelly describes Eleven Demons as a love story. This is an apt depiction given that he means "love" with all the subtle meanings and connotations that the word can have.

Second, this is a great story about expatriate life in Bali in particular and perhaps in Indonesia in general. As a long term resident of Indonesia myself, the story is full of resonances with my own experience. After nearly a decade here, this wonderful country and its friendly people still continue to provide me with genuine surprises. Just when you think you have all the cross-cultural issues tidied away, you stumble onto something that takes your breath away. This book provided me with several more of those surprises. Reading Eleven Demons affirmed to me that, when we expats arrive in an apparent paradise like Bali, we bring a set of values and attitudes of which we are barely aware. Over time we are encouraged, teased, seduced or pressed into keeping some of those values and bending others, while some we simply throw away. Want to find out what I mean? Just read the book!

About the Author
Robert Forczyk has a PhD in International Relations and National Security from the University of Maryland, and a strong background in European and Asian military history. He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the US Army Reserves having served 18 years as an armor officer in the US 2nd and 4th Infantry Divisions and as an intelligence officer in the 29th Infantry Division (Light). Dr Forczyk is currently a consultant in the Washington, DC area.

About the Author
Snoo Wilson (1948-2013) was born in Reading, studied at the University of East Anglia and was a founding director of the Portable Theatre, Brighton and London. During his career, Wilson was script editor for the Play for Today series, BBC TV, dramaturg for the RSC, director of the Scarab Theatre and also taught film scriptwriting at the National Film School. In 1980 he was awarded a US/UK Bicentennial Fellowship and worked at Santa Cruz University and with the New York Theatre Studio in New York. In 1989 Wilson was Associate Professor, lecturing in play writing, at University College San Diego. With a writing career from the 1960s, Wilson's place as an important and distinguished playwright was confirmed in his many award-winning plays both in Britain and across America. He received the John Whiting Award in 1978 for The Glad Hand, the San Diego Theater Circle award in 1988 for 80 Days and the Eileen Anderson/Central Broadcasting Premiere Award for Best Night Out for HRH. Wilson wrote films, libretti, radio plays and two novels. His libretti include an acclaimed adaptation of Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld for the English National Opera and the book for 80 Days at the La Jolla Playhouse in California.
