About the Author
Patricia Schnering, RHIA, CCS, is the founder, author, and publisher of Professional Review Guides, Inc., and PRG Publishing, Inc. Previously, she worked as a Health Information Management (HIM) consultant and as an adjunct instructor of HIM at St. Petersburg College. She was also president of her local GCHIMA and a delegate to the FHIMA, where she served on committees and the board of directors, and earned the FHIMA Literary Award in 2000 and 2006. Currently, Patricia serves as a delegate to the FHIMA and on the advisory board at St. Petersburg College. She is a member of AHIMA and the Assembly on Education (AOE). In addition to a BS in Business Administration from the University of South Florida, Patricia holds CCS and RHIA certifications from St. Petersburg College.

Passed first try using PRG

I personally found tremendous value in studying with the PRG. I just took the RHIT exam on Friday for the first time and passed with a 356. I mainly used the 2015 PRG to study from. I used the online tests and just took them over and over again. I used both the Johns and the Sayles book to look up any answers I got wrong. My exam had hardly any stats questions and the ones that were on there were very simple. Only a handful of coding questions and those weren't that difficult either- take time to study principle dx and sequencing rules. There was quite a few IT questions regarding databases and their content. That was probably my worst section- scored a 74. I wish I had taken more time to study the IT and data management concepts. Several questions regarding qualitative vs quantitative review, not many HR type questions, the National Provider Data Bank came up on at least 3 questions...Some of the questions were poorly worded and were just bad grammar wise so you need to read carefully. I flagged the ones I wasn't sure on and then went back and reviewed those. After I reviewed the flagged questions I reviewed the entire test from start to finish. I still had about an hour and half left on my timer when I submitted. These note cards have the main concepts you should know for the exam and provides excellent explanations. [...]
*Only gave 4 stars because there was a few questions with the wrong answers but overall I still found the book to be extremely helpful.

Product not as described

I purchased this book for an RHIT prep course. I pre-ordered the 2013 edition because I thought it would be best to have the latest updates, even though it would not arrive until the second week of school. To be fair, this book does have a lot of good information and references for those studying for the RHIT exam. However, the description of the book says that it includes a CD-ROM and free access to practice exams online. Mine came with neither. I am VERY disappointed with my purchase. I really don't want to return the book because I am halfway through a six-week course. So I really feel stuck on this one. I do not recommend this edition of the professional review guide to anyone at this point.

RHIT review & prep guide

I used this book to prepare for my RHIT exam which I successfully completed during my final semester of study in April. I anticipated taking the exam under ICD-9 and in hindsight that was a good call, considering ICD-10's postponement. This book organized the material I needed to review. It provided questions in appropriate areas of review that required me to think about the optional answers and ask myself what I knew about each option. This provided a very good means of reviewing the material and topics covered in the RHIT exam. Some of the material I found I'd forgotten about since my initial courses and using this guide helped me to identify areas to review. One criticism is that some of the page numbers for reference materials seemed off, the actual information was often found nearby but not on the pages cited. There was a red, white, and black cardboard flap inside the front cover with an access code as opposed to a CD. I used this site to do additional review but unlike the text it only tells you you got the question wrong without citing a reference source. All in all I found this book a helpful resource for organizing my review and preparing me for the exam.
