Very enlightening chronicle

I am writing as a Roman Catholic about to be ordained a deacon. I very much appreciate this book as it chronicles the development of the office of Deacon from early church times. It explains some of the factors that have gone into the role over time, and brings the reader up to date with in the Orthodox community. There is some reference in this book to the trajectory which the office of deacon has taken in the Roman church and this is very enlightening. I particularly enjoy the chronicling of Saint Deacons in the back of the book which includes deacons of the East and the West. As we continue our efforts to heal the wounds of division and separation, this book has helped this Roman Catholic further appreciate the office of deacon, its historicity, and the promise it offers the modern church.
